Miguel Spina took on his first ROK Cup race this weekend, representing the Energy Corse brand, and showcased remarkable determination despite facing tough conditions. This marked his official entry into the world of racing, after a disappointing start to his motorsport journey last year when a faulty engine cut short his debut experience.
Under challenging weather conditions, with persistent rain and a muddy track, Miguel persevered through relentless training sessions. Fortunately, the sun emerged on Sunday, providing a more favourable environment for his racing debut.
During the pole position qualification, Miguel impressively secured 15th place out of a total of 31 racers. Starting in 15th place for the first race, Miguel’s lack of race experience showed during the formation lap, as he lost 12 positions. Despite the setback, he displayed impressive resilience, fighting his way back through the pack and finishing in 20th place with a personal best lap time of 58.5 seconds, only 0.2seconds from the best time of the racer finishing in P1.
For the final race, Miguel improved his starting technique significantly. Although it remained tough to make up positions on track, he held his ground and finished in 19th out of 31 drivers.
This debut race provided valuable lessons for Miguel, both in terms of technical skill and mental toughness. Given the challenges he faced and the progress he made over the weekend, it’s clear that this experience will be a stepping stone in his growth as a racer.
“I wasn’t expecting such a strong result in his first race, Miguel handled the pressure really well and appeared noticeably more confident during the second formation lap and throughout the race ‘battle’. This is a great sign for his development.” Coach – Mr. Danny Carenini
As Miguel continues to gain experience, his future in the sport looks promising, and we can expect even more growth from this young talent.
